Sometimes, life throws us into situations where we’re forced to reveal parts of ourselves we prefer to keep tucked away. It’s not about losing control; it’s about asserting boundaries when someone tests you past the point of return.
We all carry a certain “character” with us, a version of ourselves we proudly present to the world. Maybe it’s calm, composed, or kind. Maybe it’s stoic, resilient, or empathetic. But beneath that polished veneer, we are a spectrum. Some colors are soft pastels of patience, and others are bold, unrelenting hues of self-defense.
I try to move through life in the softer shades: understanding, grace, and quiet strength. But I am human, and like everyone else, I contain multitudes. And there comes a time when those darker, less forgiving colors might make an appearance. It doesn’t mean I’m proud of them or eager to show them, but it does mean I’m prepared to if I must.
When someone crosses a line, they force us into a space where we have to decide: Do we stay in character or paint the scene with shades they didn’t know we had? It’s not a decision made lightly. Those moments are a reminder that even the gentlest souls can have sharp edges when they need to.
But here’s the truth: those hidden colors aren’t just for others to see—they’re for us to remember. They remind us of our power, our limits, and our ability to protect ourselves when the situation demands it. They’re not colors to flaunt but colors to honor.
So, don’t mistake kindness for weakness or silence for complacency. And don’t assume that the colors you’ve seen are all that exist. The crayon box is vast, and some shades only come out when absolutely necessary.
To those who push boundaries, take this as your warning. And to those who, like me, carry a spectrum within, remember this: you are both soft and strong, and that balance is your greatest strength.
Until next time,
Stay true to your spectrum.
